New Hope Church Hosts Missionary Rev Bill Meeks

New Hope Presbyterian Church held Sunday school and evening worship with Rev Bill Meeks delivering the sermon. Meeks and family are well known locally as a Kentucky missionary. Quarter communion is set for next Sunday morning. New members Ronnie Teague Arnold Walker and James Walker joined last Sunday and were baptized. July and August union services begin with July 3 installation of Rev Parks Moore at Arm Strong Memorial, followed by July 17 Rev J H Buzhardt at Linwood, July 31 Rev W C Mee at New Hope, and August 7 the next service location.

Cramerton Woman Reports Accident With Hit and Run Vehicle

Eva White a Cramerton grocer reported to police that her 1954 Chevrolet coupe was struck by a hit and run car near the South Street Intersection in the 200 block of West Franklin Avenue shortly before 3 PM. She could not identify the other vehicle or provide a license plate number.

Forty & Eight Committee Votes To Secede From Legion

INDIANAPOLIS Meém control of the Legion have sin ders of the Forty & Eight, announcing a break with the American Legion. The executive committee declared the organization dissolved and urged ratification at the Miami convention. They cited seven years of domination by a small group and misused funds, while naming several individuals as kingmakers.

Thief Parks Stolen Auto At Cop's Home

Capt. KR. M. Smith of the Gastonia police found a stolen 1949 blue Chevrolet parked in front of his home at 308 North Morris street. Craig Motor Company reported the theft and the license matched the car on Morris street. Smith commented the thief was considerate or brazen as he took the vehicle.

R H Cook Taken By Death

Robert H Cook 40 of Stanley died Monday after a short illness in a Kings Mountain hospital. He suffered a heart attack Saturday at Lithium Corporation where he worked as stock room clerk. Surviving are wife Evelyn Gantt Cook three children and a sister Miss Allie Cook. Funeral Wednesday at 3 20 p m at Stanleys Methodist Church with burial in Stanley cemetery. Rev G F Houck and Rev T B Honeycutt officiating. Body to be removed from Carothers Funeral Home and in state at the church an hour before services.

Magistrate Bryan H. Lumpkin held court at the jail after deeming 13 defendants too many to transport. Nine men and four women remained jailed after a rowdy weekend party. sentences ranged from 25 dollars or 30 days to 200 dollars or 60 days.
