Tar Heel peach growers report harvest of 1 960 000 bushels this year, about 11 percent below the 1 960 000 bushels harvested last year. Lions Club held a meeting in the community building with perfect attendance pins awarded to 22 members. Homecoming at Stanley Methodist planned for June 28 with 10 am service and 2 pm song service. Several local residents and families noted as visiting or staying in town.
William A. Kiney, who claimed to be a Confederate veteran, died from injuries sustained in an incident at Indianapolis. Born February 10, 1843, near Covington Kentucky, he served in Kentucky volunteers and lived in Indianapolis since 1870. He worked as a railroad man saddle maker and cabinet maker, survived by a son in Chicago and a stepdaughter in Indianapolis.
Secretary Bylce Dickson of the Gastonia Chamber of Commerce joined W B Hair and A Burs at a Durham meeting to discuss economical divisions of tax lands between states and the federal government. The Durham gathering, called by chamber reps from across the state, elected James H Pay Batley as chair of one group. A second meeting is planned in about 40 days. Also noted is the arrival of James Richards and family at Parris Island Marine barracks for training after a visit with relatives in the Ivaba Trights area.
The Board of Civil Service Examiners announces examinations for provisional appointments to nine positions including conservationist, scientist, agrinatural engineer, and conservation aid. A Cramerton youth, 15 year old Preddie Etters, suffered serious injuries after a car veered and struck a wall on New Hope road. Also injured were 16 year old Aten Coleman of Winshill and 16 year old another rider. the crash involved a Willys vehicle and a city bus at South York and Jack Street, with hospital care sought at Gaston Memorial.
Sherman Bunerraer, 32, of Taye, charged in a case described as a sale incident near Onemdl Court. The Gazette records the incident as part of local police activity with no further details.
