A Utah river mishap left two uranium prospectors adrift for eight days. Charles L. Robinson of Hot Springs Arkansas survived by foraging, eating raw lizards and cactus, and losing 42 pounds. Lincolnton Young Men Hurt In High Speed Crash
Three Lincolnton men were hospitalized after their 1950 Ford overturned on a rural road near Lincolnton at about 6 30 Sunday morning. Driver Raymond Caudle 18 received back injuries and lacerations while passengers James Ewing 18 and Doyle Lingerfelt 21 sustained head and back scrapes and bruises. Caudle was charged with reckless driving. The car was demolished after traveling 375 feet and overturning twice.

Forester Ed Buckner reports two fires in Crowd ers Mountain area over the past week burned over four acres on the northern slope Saturday and threatened the mountain. Smokej Chaser Bill Williams and four volunteers stopped the blaze around 12 noon after it started near 10 o'clock. A second fire last week burned more than 10 acres, destroying young pines before merging into larger timber. Fire began as a brush flare at about 1 pm and was controlled by forestry service and NC Civil Rescue around 4:30 pm, first reported by the sheriff. Buckner, leaving July 15 for a University of Tennessee forestry post, warns woods are dry and urges fire caution.
