Burlington Industries To Close A Week

Burlington Industries will close five textile plants in Gaston County for the July fourth holiday week. Spencer Love says mills will shut Saturday July 2 and reopen after the holiday. Some plants with seasonal demand may stay open. The move includes vacation bonuses and potential two weeks pay or 4 percent of annual wages for long-time employees. A small fire at the power house caused minor damage. Oscar Hoffman and Lizzie Stowe wed Sunday at W T Hoffman home. ceremony on the porch with 80 guests.

Botany Man Named Waste Committee Chairman

J. J. Hinds, superintendent of Botany Cottons, Inc., named chairman of an industrial waste committee by Mayor Schneider. Joining him are Walter Gardner, Tom Cox, and Paul Little. The panel will work with industry to set handling standards while Gastonia plans upgrades to disposal plants on Catawbe and Long creeks to boost capacity. Industrial wastes are noted as eight times harder to treat than sewage.

Boshamer to Attend NC Postmasters Convention

Postmaster C W Boshamer will attend the 19th annual convention of the North Carolina Chapter of the National Association of Postmasters at Carolina Beach. He called it the most important gathering since the Post Office Department reorganization and regionalization.

Memorial Hospital Visiting Hours Public Notice

Memorial Hospital announces visiting hours for different wards. Oratory Of Veteran Attorneys Stands Out In Gastonia Trial

In Gastonia courtrooms the trial tested by Basil L. White featured veteran counsel sparring over the Correll case and related matters. Cross examinations touched on liquor charges and search warrants while the courtroom heard about a 26 year history with the accuser, and a later non-suit ruling freeing a woman.
