The First A R Presbyterian Church launches its Vacation Bible School from June 11 to 22 for youths ages 4 to 14. Daily sessions run 9 30 a m with an aviation theme Ceiling Unlimited and roles for teachers as pilots and navigators. An end of session Family Night supper follows on June 22 with certificates awarded and a migration harvests charity offering supporting migrant harvesters.

Ed Drum of Firestone community and Mrs Stella Melton of Gastonia face warrants after alleged assault incidents. Drum is Melton’s brother in law. no trial date set. Drum reportedly attacked Mrs Melton who suffered serious injuries including skull fractures and cerebral concussion. Police say Drum refused hospital staff orders and remained on scene after wife’s beating.

Natural gas to reach Gastonia by late September
Public Service Company of North Carolina won Federal Power Commission approval to build 168 miles of transmission lines and supply natural gas to 34 towns in North Carolina including Gastonia. Gas should arrive soon after September with plans to serve Chapel Hill Raleigh Durham and Davidson Kannapolis Statesville and more, as demand grows and customers convert.
