Gastonians Seek Western Route for New Highway
A Gastonia delegation told the North Carolina State Highway Department on Monday that a Great Lakes to Piedmont highway should enter North Carolina via a western route along current N G 21. The group, led by Senator Pat Cooke, urged that the road be placed westward to serve Mecklenburg and nearby counties, noting Virginia’s pending position and awaiting U S Public Roads Commission approval. Local participants included E F Gallagher Brice T Dickson and Dan Gunter with council support.

Pauline Alice Carr six year old Mt Holly girl was skinned and bruised Monday when struck by a gasoline tanker. She reportedly ran into the street in front of the truck.
