Negro Student Sentenced in Booze Case in Gastonia
A 20 year old Negro college student was sentenced in Gastonia city court on a term of eight months on the roads for violation of North Carolina liquor laws. Tommy Crank, arrested Christmas Eve by Sheriff officers Hayes, British, and Davis, plus Kennedy Davis, faced charges of possession and transportation of a gallon of white liquor. The car belonged to Roy Wood who was also convicted. Crank allegedly threw two half gallon jars of non taxed liquor from the car during surveillance. A defense witness called Crank a good boy with no liquor dealing reputation. Both convictions were appealed. bond set at 500 dollars. A similar six month sentence was imposed on Charles Knight for possession of over two jars of liquor. Knight also appealed. bond set at 1,000. Knight was arrested December 17 by the same officers.

Army reform plan fails in first vote in assembly

Student Nurse Credited With Saving Life Of 2 Year Old
In Gastonia two men pled guilty to drunk driving in city court. Roy Hamilton Jr. and Vernon D. Fowler were fined and charged costs. Fowler received a suspended six month sentence. Bobby Eugene Bell paid fines for speeding and reckless driving. A separate note reports Factory Management and Maintenance adding smoking baths to reduce shop halt times and hazards.
