Governor-elect Craig Names Asheville Aides for Staff

Explosion Kills Nine at Hamlet Round House
Three white men and six negro employees of the Seaboard Air Line Railway in Hamlet were killed when a stationary boiler exploded early Saturday. Victims named include C. B. Utter, William Utter, and H. G. Reynolds. The round house was wrecked and responsibility for the blast is unknown, with the likely cause believed to be low boiler water and improper cooling.

W L Davis aged 81 died after several weeks illness from pneumonia following grip at his daughter Mrs S T Whitesides home in Pisgah. Born November 12 1831 in Rutherford county he lived in the county eight years. Survived by one daughter and three stepdaughters. Funeral at home today 2 pm conducted by Rev J J Beach assisted by Rev A T Lindsay. burial in Pisgan cemetery beside Mrs Davis.
