Stranded Fliers Are Safe Today
Seven American airmen and two Canadian weather observers marooned on a frozen Labrador lake since their B 17 force landed Christmas Eve were rescued and flown to Goose Bay after a four hour 29 minute flight. Radio reports said they were in good shape after their two day vigil on Lake Duke. The rescue was by a ski equipped jet propelled plane piloted by Lt Colonel Emil G Beaudry of Manchester New Hampshire. The distance Goose Bay to the downed plane is 275 miles.
