A dad named Dad must claim a gift labeled to Jane after a package left in the Gastonia post office lobby. The unclaimed box, found by Matthews Belk Co shoppers, contains ladies wear and was gift wrapped with a Love Dad tag. Postmaster Boshamer says the item was not mailed and awaiting pickup tonight.
Holy Trinity Lutheran Church hosts a candlelight service at 11:30 PM with Rev. George W. Lingle preaching on Songs in the Night. A social hour precedes in the assembly room, with Mrs. Clyde Cloninger at the organ and a list of acolytes including Freddie Holscher and David Cloninger. Public is invited.

Grover Cleveland Moss Jr., a 29 year old Gastonia grocer, was described as doing very nicely by a Charlotte hospital spokesman. He underwent surgery to repair damage from a .22 caliber rifle wound to the mouth and head inflicted early yesterday morning. Moss was transported to Charlotte Memorial Hospital after examination at Gaston Memorial. Police said he was found in bed at his parents home on Third Ave.
Santa Claus may find the roof slippery tonight as freezing rain steel and snow are forecast. The forecast warns hazardous chimney access and very cold conditions with temperatures dipping into the teens. Warmer readings are expected Christmas Day though rain clouds linger.
Gaston Chemicals officials praised Lowell firemen who battled a 4 am blaze that damaged a boiler building at the Spencer Mountain plant. Damage was estimated under 1060 dollars as chemicals released during the fire worsened breathing issues.

A North Carolina man, Robert Donald Bass of Box 8 Salisbury, N C, was struck and killed on a Pensacola street Wednesday night. The driver, Jimmy Dale Hall, 17, of Pensacola, faced no charges. Bass worked for Sloat Dredging Co. of Slidell, Louisiana, which is on Santa Rosa Island.
In Weslaco Texas Glen Adams and James Hunter donated two large watermelons to honor four year old Michael Gerard Pastranella who has hoped for watermelon since last September. The fruit arrived in Bryan Friday after a request from his mother Mrs Joe C Pastranella.
Snow and freezing rain blanketed a wide swath from North Dakota to the Great Lakes with up to seven inches in Chicago and five storm deaths reported citywide. Driving remained hazardous north of Illinois and Indiana as gusty winds created large drifts. Snow was forecast to continue in the upper Mississippi Valley and into the Mid Atlantic with Christmas temperatures near zero to the low range and flurries or rain in the north.
