Midnight Mass Scheduled Here at St Michael’s

The Feast of Christ's Nativity will be marked by a Midnight Mass at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Saturday night. The service features a cross bearer and altar boys, followed by the High Mass sung for the first time by the children's choir. Christmas carols will be sung at 11:43 by the children's choir with Mrs. Winterson at the organ and Leo Helfer directing. Additional Masses on Christmas Day are at 8 and 9 am. The public is invited.

Gastonia Red Shield Boxers Dominate Shelby Bouts

Gastonia's Red Shield boxing team won three bouts and drew one against Shelby at the Shelby Armory. Freddie Johnson won by decision, Lander Barnhill and Jerry Barlowe scored quick knockouts, Keith Uren and Donnie Dockery lost decisions, Johnny Huff stetler drew. Barnhill won in 40 seconds, Barlowe in 50 seconds of the opening round. A rematch could come soon in Gastonia.

Toytown Theft Reported at 246 West Airline Avenue

City officers report a Thurs day night entry at Toytown on 246 West Airline Avenue. About $15 was taken from a change box under the counter after suspects tampered with the rear door and caused a broken window. Detectives S. W. Smith and L. G. Haskett led the investigation.

Cyclist Kenn Mauney Hurt Near Cherryville

Kenneth Mauney age 16 of Bessemer City sustained serious leg and arm injuries when his motorcycle collided with a car near Cherryville on Thursday night. He was transported to Gaston Memorial Hospital for treatment and possible fractures.

New York stock prices held near the year peak in a fairly active market with mostly fractional moves. Traders encouraged by holiday cover positions. the exchange will be closed Saturday and Monday.
