Salisbury man James M. Bury, 69, is jailed on murder charges after fatally shooting A. M. Gregory, 41, a Salisbury businessman and former UNC football player, following a dispute over a road near Oak Ridge Lumber Company. Gregory died of shotgun wounds. hearing date pending.
In Pershing Square Los Angeles the Masquers annual outdoor party drew thousands of youngsters to see Santa and film stars Gene Autry Wally Ford and Reverend Denny. More than 100 children were lost as the crowd filled the stage and blocked access to the microphone until police guided them to a bus where parents claimed them.

A 12 year old Negro boy was found chained to a bed in a rude Shelby area home and placed in the care of the Cleveland County Welfare Department. The boy's mother Willie Mae Labon and grandmother Cassie Labon were ordered to stand trial on cruelty charges after a recorder's court hearing. Constable Bob Kendrick secured warrants following a tenant farmer’s report of the chained boy's screams.
Governor Cherry announced a batch of paroles including Roosevelt Miller freed on parole after a 15 000 year second degree murder sentence from Ashe county in 1999. Other paroled individuals include John Sam Moore James General Lee Alvin Walker and James Bova with varied sentences for crimes from assault to larceny across Martin Scotland Harnett Rutherford and similar counties.
The United States Britain and France announced a three power pact for Berlin with Soviet exclusion. General Jean Ganeval read a statement saying Soviet authorities must abide by postwar quadripartite rules or allow resumption of the four power administration, while the Western trio govern the western sectors amid Soviet obstruction.
