Tractor Trailer Rips Down Pole on West Franklin Avenue
A runaway tractor trailer damaged a white street light pole and uprooted a fire hydrant on West Franklin Avenue about 1:49 Thursday morning. Driver John Perren Morvils of Asheville said mechanical trouble started the incident. he chased the rig and tried to stop it after it struck a pole near the South Hill Street intersection, according to officials W R Foard and E L William.

Escaped Prisoner Returned to Camp in Kings Mountain
A six year old escaped prisoner was captured in Kings Mountain and sent back to a Newton camp to finish a sentence for breaking and entering and larceny. James Woods faced a new breaking and entering charge. Officers found a 32 caliber pistol, money, costume jewelry, three rings, and cartridges on him, later identified as stolen from his home. He was returned to the camp to await trial in Cleveland. The two men are not related, according to Groves.
