Doris Crisp works eight hours daily on an IBM billing machine for Textiles Inc handling thousands of figures and client names. She is married to Wayne Crisp of Southern Paper Industries and lives in East Gastonia with plans for a new home in All American Park, scheduled for completion after Christmas. She attended Gastonia High School, worked at Bulwinkle Howard law office and Piedmont Mills before joining Textiles. She is active at Flint Groves Baptist Church as secretary in the Junior Department and WMU, enjoys reading and cooking, and collects earrings.
Open house events highlighted ninth grade students at South Gastonia and Plint-Groves Schools. Mothers and teachers toured displays of Christmas decorations, clothing, crocheted items, toys, and handmade gifts crafted by students. Home economics instructor Mrs. W. R. Spear introduced at both schools.
Gastonia American Legion Post 23 plans a Sunday visit to the Veterans Administration Hospital in Columbia. Commander Fred Ware leads 20 to 25 Legionnaires carrying 1000 gift packages including cigarettes fruit candy razors brushes and toothpaste to visit every patient, departing Memorial Hall at 7 30 a m and returning by dusk.
Osceola and Seminole Mills supervisors will hold their Christmas party at 6 30 PM tonight at the Gastonia Woman's Club building.
The Hartsells new brick house on Hillcrest Avenue features a five room layout with two bedrooms. Framed in white plaster walls, it includes a wide living and dining area, knotty pine cabinets, and a glassy rear master with three windows. George Keller built it, plans inspired by other Hartsell homes. Margaret McArver Hartsell, payroll clerk at Beaunit Mills, is from Lowell, while Bryan Hartsell works in Harden Manufacturing bookkeeping.
C D Gray president of the Gaston County Tuberculosis Association praises volunteers newspapers radio schools churches and merchants for community teamwork. He notes encouraging countywide responses to the Christmas Seal Sale but urges laggards to contribute. The Gaston County Health Department and county schools are coordinating a mass X ray of all ninth grade pupils using a donated machine.
The annual Christmas cantata will be presented Sunday night at 1 o'clock at West End Methodist Church. The program opens with organ music and the choir will sing Christmas carols before ending with Hamidel's Hallelujah Chorus from The Messiah.
Belmont Park Street Methodist Church will present The Christmas Story in Song this Sunday December 19 at 5 p.m. Soloists Linda Pope and David Del linger lead with Douglas Smith and Mrs Fred Gastonia directing. Selections include The First Noel The Star of Bethlehem O Holy Night Silent Night with descant and Joy to the World. World. Dinner follows at 8 o'clock.
Miss Julia Arena Hoffman and James Erwin Saunders wed at First Baptist Church of Dallas in a noon ceremony officiated by Rev. Vernon M. Herren. The couple left for a Miami bridal trip and will reside in Dallas.
Four new deacons were elected at First Presbyterian Church Mt Holly, including J. E. Bailes W. J. Springs E. G. Loftin and William Stowe to serve four years ending 1958 under the rotary plan. Bailes and Springs have prior service. Installation planned for Sunday January 2 with Loftin and Stowe to be ordained and installed. H. J. Cross and M. L. Bynum retire from rotation after four years of service.
Belmont public schools will close Wednesday December 22 with dismissal at the regular time. Classes will resume on January 4 1955 as normal.
