Taft planned talks with House leaders to decide if a modified Walcott bill could pass the Senate and possibly reach the House in time. House leaders said final action by Friday was impossible, while Taft and leaders weighed options on futures steps. The Taft variant would exclude the House demand for higher gold reserves and would favor voluntary industry agreements to curb prices under temporary suspensions of anti trust laws, with continued export controls and transportation restraints.
