Charles Pesta, soloist for Myers Park Presbyterian Church, Charlotte, will sing the tenor lead in Handel's The Messiah at First Baptist Church next Sunday. The performance features the Gastonia Community Chorus of 100 voices under Joe D. Hamrick of Shelby with afternoon and evening shows. Governor Scott was set to act to trim sentences for two Charlotte youths Marion Crawford 20 and John H McMahon Jr 19 convicted with Donald Ray Robertson for breaking into a Charlotte Coca Cola plant last May 28 Paroles papers asked to reduce terms to time served but Crawford would be required to serve out an earlier sentence Robertson was freed by the state supreme court November 30 The same evidence linked Crawford and McMahon but Roberts on appeal prevented extension of the ruling Crawford had prior robbery conviction from 1947 and parole in 1948 which was revoked by the new arrest. he must complete the remainder of his former term in February.

Five Defendants Fined in Municipal Court Pleas
Five defendants faced fines in municipal court on Wednesday morning. Two Gaston residents, Daniel Drake ford and William Bankhead, each paid $10 and costs for possessing one half gallon of non tax paid whiskey. Three others pleaded guilty to prohibition violations and paid costs, Jack Bradshaw, James Plyler, and Jack Arrowood. Two Gaston residents were fined costs after pleading guilty to assault, Glenn Webb and Olaf Carpenter. The George Chagaris case, charged with larceny of a boat and motor, was continued to February 15, 1950.

Two Gaston Men Bound for Federal Liquor Case
At a hearing before U S Commissioner D B Price Wednesday Clarence Alexander 35 and James Cloud 26 a cab operator from Cherryville were bound over to federal court for alleged liquor violations. Alexander faced charges after about two gallons of white liquor were found at his home and barn. Cloud in a companion case of conspiracy was accused of transporting whiskey to other dealers.
