RALEIGH AP A Baptist minister, Rev. W. W. Finlater of Pullen Memorial Baptist Church, told his congregation that brown-bagging beers may be less offensive to the Almighty than bootlegging Bibles. He argued NC regulators err in outlawing alcohol rules seen as outmoded and unworkable. The NC Supreme Court ruled brown-bag liquor at restaurants illegal and lawmakers expect a liquor law overhaul in 1947. Police report most Hofmann paintings valued around $200000 or more missing from the artist Hans Hofmann estate in Provincetown. A caretaker said seven works vanished including Hofmann pieces. trustees were due in Provincetown to inventory the estate. Hofmann died at 85 last February. His widow lived in New York City. Hofmann ran an art school in Munich before coming to the United States to teach at UC Berkeley.
A dynamited car and sniper fire sparked violence in Wadeshovo North Carolina near Wadesboro. Arby Snt Hailey, stationed at Fort Riley, Kan, was the owner. his wife and others were not harmed. Police reported shots fired at three cars, with windows shattered and no injuries. The incident follows a desegregation related act in nearby Charlotte.
