Dallas volunteers hosted a blood drive, drawing 1506 pints collected from 156 donors before 104 pints were rejected for various reasons. Manstard, drive chairman, praised turnout as positive, with many volunteers assisting including D Latham and E Ridenhour. Local press notes holiday season bustle as community spirit and barber shop and SPEBS anthologies frame the scene.
Memorial Hospital in Dallas hosts the Piedmont Boy Scouts of America council meeting at 6 30 tonight in Room 410. Officers-elect for 1952 from 11 counties will be announced with Nelson Jackson of Tryon as president-elect and D R LaFar Jr of Gastonia as executive vice president.

Gaston County Republicans plan an early meeting to discuss presidential candidates for 1952. James Carter, chair, notes sentiment favors Robert Taft, with doubts about Eisenhower. He invites all Gaston Republicans to the upcoming $100-a-plate party shower in Greensboro on January 19 and urges early reservations.
Delbert Lazenby reports the first big Christmas tree sale at Main and Gallatin across from Main Street Methodist Church. L. L. Lewis offers balsam firs from Pisgah National Park and native cedars from Gaston and York counties, with holly and mistletoe added later. Prices range 1 to 2 for cedars, 2 to 4.40 for balsams, holly and mistletoe from 0.25 per bunch. Silver painted evergreens and specialty colors may appear if public demand rises. Several local stores display small two and three-foot trees for tables and apartments.
The Highland Dramatics Club presents The Clock Struck Twelve a mystery farce in the Highland Gym tonight at 8 o clock. Cast includes James Reach's Wille Martin Macl Kithcart Mary G C Williams Peggy Parker Dorothy Rainey and Blanche Marshall with Horace Russell making a debut among others. Several seniors and juniors contribute in this school stage effort reflecting past roles from The Dustman and All My Sons.
Four cars collided at Franklin and Broad streets on Sunday at 7 33 p m with one driver fleeing the scene. Officers Carrigan and Terry identify drivers as John Farr Negra of South Weldon Street William Mobley 17 1401 North York Street and East Bruster 36 418 South Broad Street all westbound on Franklin. A fourth car allegedly struck the others, while details remain under police review as witnesses describe the incident.
Farmers from Gaston county name delegates from seven communities to attend a county convention on Friday December 14 at the PMA Office in Cherryville. Delegates elect a county committee of three members and two alternates to direct county PMA activities next year and certify winners from last week’s community committeemen election.
The Methodist College Foundation met in Greensboro for its annual meeting to promote a campaign for millions of dollars to support North Carolina church related colleges. Delegates discussed fundraising plans and growth for church affiliated schools.
Gastonia safety chairman urges eight precautions to prevent Christmas fires and accidents. He warns against tire proof trees and flameproofing with chemicals, advises cool corner placement away from heat sources, safe trimming practices, nonflammable decorations, careful wiring, and outdoor-appropriate sets. Also notes Air Force Officers Candidate School openings for graduates and eligible women, detailing the application and training steps.
Jim Willcox of Mian, Florida, visited Armstrong Circle residents Mr. and Mrs. J Britt Petty over the weekend after quashing them. He has traveled to New York for business. Both men are Rolls Royce Club of America members through their ownership of Rolls Royce cars. Willcox had never met the Pettys and read their address in the club magazine. He asked permission to visit them.
Calvin Watson Boyd, 36, of 207 South Vance Street, died of a gunshot wound to the head in Gaston Memorial Hospital Monday morning. He was shot at his father's home on Lower Dallas Road when a .22 rifle exploded while he was butcher ing cattle. Coroner W. G. McLean said no inquest would be held. Garothers Funeral Home is handling arrangements which are incomplete.
Central North Carolina prices show icyers and broilers steady to mostly one cent higher with gains around 25 and a few 24. Raleigh prices mostly two cents weaker with a large 63 noting market softness.
