L W Faires, once a real estate figure who helped develop a town, now recalls early days with Irene McCall. Patrolman W C Saunders found a wrecked 400 pound safe beside Wilkinson boulevard about 9 am Sunday. The safe, belonging to Atlantic Coast Life Insurance of Spartanburg S C, contained rate books, papers, four checks over $700 and numerous photos.

Funeral held Monday at the family home and burial in Green Hill Cemetery Waynesville.
A 16 year old girl from Belmont, Sarah Reed, was sentenced in Gastonia Municipal Court to spend the next three weekends in Gaston County jail after pleading guilty to three shoplifting charges. A store manager stopped her and two other juveniles for stealing a pocket knife. items from three other Main Avenue stores were found with Reed, but not the knife. The other juveniles were turned over to juvenile authorities. In separate matter, William A. Cloninger, 40, received 30 days on the roads for malicious damage to property. Stacey Dixon, 39, paid costs and two bad checks. Winter Turner was found innocent of reckless driving. judgment postponed without costs on running a red light. Phillip Bullard, 16, Star, bound over to superior court on morals charges.

John Frederick Moore Jr. of New York City and Billie Jeanne Wellman of Bessemer City. Also listed are Donald Hoyle Kirby and Irene Daisy Brewer. Oscar Kenneth Anthony and Jewell Patrick Stowe. Larry Kenneth Bromé and Hreya Leanna. James Anthony Trulesdate and Clara Sue May. Oscar Leslie Russ Jr. and Peggy Jean Neill. Rev. Bobby Charles Meeks and Faith Loueen Barker. The notice runs through several other couples and includes stray historical notes about ships and cannons.
County Forester John Perry reports a brush fire near Smyre Mill was extinguished. Several acres burned, but only grass and leaves. nine trees on the property survived. Fire spread despite wet ground. East Gastonia Volunteer Fire Department credited for dousing the blaze. Firemen trudged through mud to reach the flames. Perry warns grass and leaves can still burn even when ground is wet.

FAIRVIEW Utah Peter Peterson 97 and his wife Celestia 96 celebrate their 79th wed ding anniversary. Married at St George in southwest Utah December 1878. He recalls a 1913 lightning strike that doctors feared would kill him. They have seven living of ten children and many descendants including 48 grandchildren 149 great grandchildren and 32 great great grandchildren.
In the first of three rocket stages a failure was blamed on loss of chamber pressure. General Electric built the rocket motor for the first stage. In Cincinnati Louis Michelson manager of GE's rocket engine station said footage showed the engine operated correctly and the failure was elsewhere in the missile. Most GE engine parts were recovered and an examination confirmed the first stage engine was not at fault.
