Jail inmate starts fire in county jail
A 38 year old patient awaiting commitment to a state hospital set fire to his mattress in the county jail late Monday night. He reported selling fire to the mattress and could not extinguish it. Two minor burns were treated after jailers and women prisoners raised the alarm. He was taken to hospital and later returned to jail with possible transfer to Morganton planned for Tuesday.
