A 28 year old man identified as Marion Elkins Crescent Jane was arrested Friday night by Rural Police Officers Q Dale and H Hovis and charged with armed robbery. The complaint, filed by A B Jordan who runs a nick and stays in a local hotel, states Jordan was robbed of $8 and a wrist watch the night before. Detectives J R Harris and E H Groves said Jordan led them to the suspect after meeting a man on the road whom he identified as Elk IN.

Fire destroys four room house behind fair
Rural police report a four room home behind the fair rounds destroyed by fire early Saturday morning. The fire at Frank Shook's home also killed power and telephone lines in the vicinity. Blamed on an oil stove that exploded. Four trucks from Lowcel t and New Hope volunteer departments fought the blaze as the house burned to flames. One chair saved. The Red Cross Bloodmobile will set up at Flint Groves Baptist Church Monday morning from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Volunteers from Wix, Modena, Flint and Love mills, Hinde and Dauch factory, Central Yam and Dye, Groves Mill, Southern Paper, and Seth Lumber will join workers and industrial employees in giving blood as a Christmas season aid. Delinquency charges in Gaston case after fatal road chase
Five Negro men and a 16 year old white girl face charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor following a traffic chase on New Hope road that ended with a wreck and the death of 82 year old William George Merritt Rogers. Another white girl, 15, is involved. The suspects were arrested by Gaston Rural Police. Rogers, a longtime Gaston resident and former county deputy sheriff, died at his home after the crash. Funeral services are set for Pisgah Reformed Presbyterian and Love Memorial churches with interment at Hollywood Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, five daughters, four sons, ten grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and a sister.
