New Catawba Bridge at Sloan's Ferry Linked to Gaston Mecklenburg
The Charlotte Observer reports commissioners from Mecklenburg and Gaston counties inspected a newly completed $100 000 reinforced concrete bridge over the Catawba at Sloan's Ferry connecting the two counties. A December 19 dedication is planned with a roads rally and possible speakers.

The Gastonia Business College will stage its first public graduation at the courthouse next Tuesday night at 7 30. Eleven graduates will receive diplomas including Mary Hovis Lincolnton Willie Lineberger Clover and C H Henderson Bessemer City. President C C Beam will present diplomas and Rev J E Abernethy will give the address. A quartet and the Clara Concert Band will provide musical selections. The public is invited to attend.

Armstrong Company Buys Long Staple Cotton Bales
The Armstrong Company purchased two bales of Lew is long staple cotton from G R Ratchford and Dallas Harkey in the Union section. Each bale weighed about 635 to 638 pounds and was bought at 18 cents per pound with seed valued at 30 cents and 10.50 per bushel. Seed resale could raise returns by about 60 percent. these are excellent records.

The twenty seventh annual Christmas opening at Torrence Morris Company attracted four to five hundred Gastonians and visitors. The event showcased the largest jewelry, silver ware, cut glass, and novelties display yet, with holly decorations and a festive atmosphere. Staff, assistants, and the Atkins Orchestra helped run the evening, with carnations and souvenirs given to guests.

Governor Grants Three Pardons and Three Commutions
Governor Kitchin on Wednesday issued three pardons and three commutations. Major H. C. Hunt, 80, a notable Asheville citizen, died Wednesday. The state board of education won a test suit to take title to 154 160 acres of swamp land in Pender County from W C Remick the buyer, with the land previously granted to Wheaton in 1795 and sold for taxes in 1799, the state reclaiming and turning over to the board.
