Mrs Thelma Holland assistant manager of the credit bureau of the Gaston County Merchants Association suffered first and second degree burns Monday morning when her blouse caught fire from a gas range burner. She extinguished the flames in the shower and was taken to Gaston Memorial Hospital then released for treatment. She is the wife of Jim Holland of Gastonia Motor Parts Inc.

Tax collections exceed 1.3 million in 1955 levy
County tax collections for 1955 have surpassed 1,300,000, about 63 percent of the levy. Glaude Dent, county auditor, says collections are running near last year, with more than half the levy paid in prepayments. Negro Convicted Of Knife Assault In Gastonia Trial
In Gastonia Municipal Court, Jake McDaniel, 23, a Clover, South Carolina, Negro, was found guilty after a lengthy trial of knife assault on Verlee Montgomery, 28, of 406 North Brevard Street. Judge Julius T. Sanders fined McDaniel $25 and the costs for the September 24 altercation on South Street. Montgomery, employed by Wilson Transfer, had accused McDaniel, an employee of Gaston Memorial Hospital, of running around with his wife.
