Beam won the sheriff seat 3-1 over John Quinn Jr in November. other officials begin new four-year terms.
W C Caldwell a 38 year old Negro of Caldwell street appealed Friday morning a Gastonia city court six month road sentence for violation of the ABC law. He was convicted by Judge B C Foneberger for possessing a half gallon jar of white liquor. Officers Rainey and Burris said Caldwell was seen entering a court path with a package, then moving on as they opened it. Defense questioned whether officers could identify Caldwell’s origin. Several motorists faced reduced charges or fines for speeding or licenses. Other defendants paid fines and costs for speeding or license issues. costs assessed for traffic device violations.

The Junior Chamber of Commerce met to plan a Christmas parade for Bessemer City. Toys for needy children will be collected Sunday December 9. donations are welcome. A civic defense drill is set for December 5 at Whitestone Mountain near the J W Bury home.

Friends of Allen R. Frady regret to learn he is seriously ill at a Prattville Alabama hospital. The Frady family moved to Prattville last spring. Frady, a Belmont native, previously oversaw the knitting department at the now defunct Morewebb Cotton Mill of Dallas for many years.
