Two men were held Friday morning in connection with a burglary at a Bessemer City home. Jake Littiejohn aged 43 of Cherryville and Willie James Graham aged 17 of Bessemer City were questioned by rural police detectives. No charges had been filed Saturday as officers pursued leads.

A 10 year old boy Lamonte C Pruitt of 606 West Airling Avenue suffered a crushed foot when a freight car wheel ran over it behind Ferguson Gear Co. He was taken to Gaston Memorial Hospital where surgeons amputated his right foot above the ankle. Police say the boy and two brothers were chasing bottles along the tracks and slipped under a switch train as it moved. Conductor W C McLean alerted nearby passersby to call an ambulance and the engine later began to pull away before the accident recurred. The boy was reported in good condition at the hospital.
