Charlotte Police Link Suspect to Four Armed Robberies
Charlotte police quoted William Earl Green 25 of Dur bar as admitting four armed robberies including two Gastonia men tried for one case. Detective Stogner said Green named Walter Lee Harvey former Charlotte tree surgeon as accomplice in three Charlotte robberies. Incidents include a June 19 truck driver holdup, a June 25 finance company $2 416 robbery, and a June 7 drive in theater theft. Durham police said Green admitted the August 12 Durham service station robbery. A separate June robbery of truck driver William Daniels involved Nelson Jr and Bobby Black of Gastonia. Green claimed only $2 was taken. Nelson and Black were previously directed to not guilty due to lack of evidence.
