Mississippi minister wounded in night shooting
Rev Donald A Thompson 59 of Jackson Mississippi First Unitarian Church, active in civil rights, was shot from behind in the apartment parking lot around 11 44 p m Sunday night. He was in serious condition at Baptist Hospital with a punctured lung and a broken left shoulder. Thompson had studied desegregation and mentored a head start program and had recently driven a Negro member of his church to a city area. He reported receiving threatening calls and identified a white male driver of the suspect car.

Mrs. Tue will Custany dances 52, of Lincolnton, N C, died at York hospital Sunday night from injuries suffered last Thursday when her husband John Paul Jones 55 and Minnetea Fredell 35, also of Lincolnton, were killed in a panel truck collision with a tractor trailer on a bypass off South Carolina 49 three miles south of Clover.
