Tent Areas Paved for Gaston County Fair Exhibits
Officials at the Gaston County Spindle Center Fair are ready to erect two flameproof exhibit tents totaling 28,000 square feet. The tent area has been asphalt paved to create a smooth dust-free surface for commercial exhibits during the September 6 to 15 event.

Man Is Fined $500 In Slot Machine Case
George A. Jenkins 35 grand sachem of the Gastonia Redmen's Club was fined 500 on a slot machine charge. Judge Verne Shive sentenced him to six months on the roads with two years suspended on payment of the fine and costs. Jenkins, who plans to appeal, was released on 500 bond after officers found three machines tampered with at the Redmen's Hall following a break in investigated by H. J. Auten.

Waikiki murder leads to Marine arrest for strangling widow
Honolulu reports a 21 year old Pearl Harbor Marine held in connection with the strangling death of 55 year old Helen Melvina Peoples whose nude body was found in a Waikiki alley. Investigators traced the suspect via a bartender’s tip and a drink paid with a check. Evidence included three pairs of women's panties in the Marine's locker and a confrontation yesterday when he dragged Peoples into an alley. Next of kin named as sister Mrs. W. E.
