Basic Loan Rate On Cotton Set In Gaston County
Gaston County's 1949 loan rate for 15/16 inch middling white and extra white cotton is 30.17 cents per pound. Dane S. Rhyne, chairman of the county agricultural committee, said the base rate may vary by quality and staple length. Loans run through April 30, 1950 and mature July 31, 1950, with special agreements for marketing cooperatives and a cottonseed price support program at 90 percent parity. Farmers currently receive about $25 per ton versus $85.90 in 1947 and $367.40 in 1948 for the crop. Alphonos Tynn Ivey, 65, president of Virginia Carolina Chemical, died in Richmond.
