Gastonia man Cr sip 27 shot himself after telling his mother he loved her. He died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after being rushed to Charlotte Memorial Hospital. Funeral plans pending with Carothers Funeral Home. Georgia Ross Currence of Winston-Salem died Monday. Survived by husband Jesse, five daughters, two sons, 27 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren. Services set for Friday at St James United Methodist Church York DC. James Alex Burgin, 89, of Belmont died Wednesday. Survived by four daughters, two sons, one half sister and one half brother. Funeral Friday at Bumgardner Funeral Home. Burial Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may visit tonight.

GHA to Apply for Housing Subsidy Grant
The Gastonia Housing Authority plans to seek a $685000 HUD grant to provide rent assistance for up to 350 low income families. Tenants would pay 5 to 25 percent of income, HUD would set fair rents, and GHA would receive 8 percent of rent to cover expenses. The program could start in 1976 with local entities also eligible to apply.

Explosion at Pont de-Buis factory in France kills or injures many
A violent explosion ripped through a state owned explosives plant in CHATEAULIN France. The Pont de-Buis factory employs more than 600 workers and the blast damaged nearby houses. A vast smoke cloud rose above the site and a large fire burned an hour after the blast with fears of further explosions.
