Verlla Dorsey a 27 year old textile worker was struck by a blue and white Oldsmobile on South Marietta Street near Plymouth Avenue Thursday night. He was taken to Gaston Memorial Hospital with cuts to the forehead and scalp. Witnesses Donald Lee and Harry Cook provided details to police.

Five men fled after breaking from a road gang at York and Chester streets yesterday afternoon. Rural, city, and state officials pursued through the day into night, losing the trail around 10 p.m. Refus Dillard Clarke, 25, of Lincolnton, and Sonny Bridges, 18, of Shelby, remained at large with Bridges on his third escape, pursuing a chase that moved toward the Firestone area and along the creek before dogs finally dropped the search.

Eight Freed As Cars Burn In Coastal Crash
A Wilmington crash near U S 17 left four women and four children trapped as two cars burst into flames. Eight were freed by three quick- thinking construction workers using a wrecker.
