Seven traffic deaths were reported in North Carolina over the weekend all from auto accidents. Harry Randall Riler, 22, of Crele died Sunday in Winston-Salem when a car crashed at a dead end. A passenger was hospitalized with no serious injuries. Frank Moss Bishop, 34, of Ladton, S. C. died Sunday when his truck left the highway near Winston-Salem and overturned. Bishop was pinned beneath the wreckage. Two passengers were injured. Tom Payne Baldwin, 22, of Ashen was killed Saturday in a rear-end crash on PhD cickt che pe shear pairccime. The report is from the Associated Press.
Barbara Jean Made headlines after an apparent domestic incident in New Orleans. Police reported she sat in a locked kitchen with gas on, escorted from her home by a policeman. The 18 year old former beauty pageant entrant had a troubled year, including a past assault by a husband.
Washington reports the Department of Agriculture is probing sharp rises in farm commodity prices to determine if unlawful speculation is involved. Administrator J. M. Mehl says attention centers on soybeans with traders handling as much as 3,000,000 bushels daily. Brannan calls current speculation excessive and unrestrained. Mehl notes follow up on a preliminary Brannan leak as inspections continue.

Robert Calvin Bob Simpson 69 of 207 West Third Avenue Gastonia died at 10 30 p m Sunday after a long illness He had been confined to his home since April A native of Kings Mountain he moved to Charlotte then Gastonia where he worked in cotton brokerage for A N Brears Co He married Ellen Rankin in 1921 Surviving are his widow a daughter Nancy Catherine Simpson and a brother Will Simpson of Charlotte He voted for Senator Frank Graham at the April primary his friend and former employer.
Public Service Company of North Carolina, Gastonia, says a 9 mile natural gas line to connect Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line with Raleigh would cost 2,204,555 dollars. A 60 mile system would be pursued with federal authorization hearings, serving Greensboro, Burlington, Graham, Durham, Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Cary, Raleigh and Asheville, plus a second 2 mile leg to Asheville at 960,300 dollars. A third 37 mile line would run to Charlotte, serving Dallas, Mount Holly, Gastonia, Cramerton, Belmont and Charlotte, for a total price of about 7.8 million. Company executive B Zeger advocates an integrated distribution network to cut costs and speed service, building new interconnection lines and expanding to attract industry. Other firms mentioned include Piedmont Natural Gas, Sparantine Gas, and Transcontinental connections to eight cities in North and South Carolina.
U S Marines and infantrymen press a large assault across the front in Korea supported by heavy air and artillery fire. About 9 000 men including Leathernecks and South Korean units attacked the 6th North Korean Division, driving positions exposed to Fifth Air Force fighters and bombers.
