A brief cyclone hit Clover South Carolina Saturday afternoon causing about 500000 dollars in damage. The storm toppled Mill No 1 and damaged Mill No 2 and surrounding houses while destroying crops across 20 000 acres. No fatalities were reported though several people were injured and many residents banded together to clear debris and prepare for rebuilding.
Mr W T Ford of New Hope visits Gastonia on business. Mrs Leonard Huffstetler guests of the Huffstetlers in Gastonia. Mrs J L Hicks and Miss Gran Hicks visit relatives in Charlotte. Miss Winifred McLean attends Linwood College teachers institute. Mrs H L Summit returns from Yorkville after visiting her daughter. Hazel Robinson and Marion Rich travel to Dallas to visit friends. Mrs J C Galloway and Miss Wilmena McKenny plan a month in Lexington and Virginia. Eli P Lineberger returns from Charleston visit with Matthews. Leake Carraway of The Charlotte News returns from a South Carolina vacation. Frank L Wilson leaves for Graham. J L Beal possesses an 1832 half dollar identical to the 1833 series. A party heads to Charlotte and Lakewood Park. D A Garrison urges out-of-town United Daughters of the Confederacy members to attend Thursday’s exercises and bring baskets. Prof Joe S Wray returns from Graham institute and resumes duties at Linwood College. Subscriptions note from C L Stowe of Sherman Texas. Gaston County remains dear. New marriage licenses issued for several couples. An 1826 Saturday Evening Post copy recalls Jefferson and Adams deaths on July 4, 1826, and the 50th anniversary of independence.

A Clover widow Mrs Lou Parrish aged about sixty two was found dead in her bed after a violent rain and hail storm that damaged the Clover Cotton Mill and village. The death was attributed to heart failure or the storm’s excitement. She left eight children and one sister. Funeral at home this morning at 10 conducted by Rev H J Mills with interment in Clover cemetery.

Hester and Bertha Best guests of Stella and Maudie Lee Rhyne near Bessemer. Littlejohns, Clemmer family spent Sunday with relatives. Presbyterian Sunday school convention at Hepzibah attended. Cloid Clemmer spending days with grandfather M D Clemmer. Pasours at aunt Catherine Friday’s home sick in Dallas route two. L A Thornburg visited Gastonia. Jones Pasour threshing machine active. crop yields fairer than expected. Largest cheat crop 121 bushels by L C Pasour. F E Ratchford and family weekend near Kings Mountain with C P Ratchford.
Mountain Island notes visitors from Iredell and Texas gather at families’ homes. Armon Mill foreman L. P. Rankin reported a gold watch stolen months ago, parts recovered near Farrar Brothers’ store, and authorities seek a local young man who quit his job just after the theft. An arrest warrant was issued and to be served.
The Cleveland soldier Thomas D. Falls of Fallston was named as one of the three soldiers who went farthest into the Federals’ lines as Pickett’s Charge broke over the breastworks at Gettysburg.
County Commissioners authorize Chaingang Camp No. 1 to macadamize the New Hope road from Kendrick's to South street via Franklin avenue in Gastonia. The move aims to connect New Hope and Union roads to Gastonia's business district, with ongoing talks on linking Bessemer City and Pisgah roads. Petitions urging rapid completion and connections are noted. several road, tax, and pauper issues are also addressed.

Mt Holly August 5 Our town mourns Mr G L Bartlett 60 who was instantly killed when a freight car on the Interurban struck him at a crossing. Bartlett recently moved from Rutherfordton to live with Rev S L Cathey. He leaves three children Mrs S L Cathey Miss Laura Bartlett and J A Bartlett. Funeral held in Lincolnton cemetery. Also noted is the death of 18 month old Robert Dunn after a ten day illness. services were held at home with Rev S L Cathey and Rev J A Bowles in attendance.
Gastonia Pythians and families plan a basket picnic tomorrow at High Shoals. They depart 9:30 in a C. and N. W. special car and return by afternoon on the regular passenger train. Round trip fare is 44 cents and several hundred people are expected to attend. High Shoals offers river and park attractions for a day outing.
