Yarn Spinners Meeting in Virginia Next Month
The SOL annual meeting of Combed Yarn Spinners is set for September 16 17 at The Homaste Hot Springs Ve. Guests may register September 16 from 4 to 6 p.m. A social hour, dinner, and directors’ meeting follow. Alfred Robinson of Rex Mills presides. Morning session September 17 features Robinson address a yarn costing panel with Dr Willard Graham and others. Manchester College of Technology speaker Prof William E Morton discusses Waste Control in Cotton Combing. A new president will be elected. Afternoon offers golf or recreation and Gov Luther Hodges will speak at dinner with prizes awarded.

Vogue to Open in New Gastonia Location Tomorrow
Vogue, Gastonia’s oldest women’s apparel store, relocates from 110 West Main Ave to 219 West Main Ave beside Kennedy’s Drug Store. Since 1932 Adolph Hahn built a 18-person staff, with Hortense joining later. the Vogue plans a 9 am Thursday opening with souvenirs and door prizes, gift certificates, and registering Aug 4–10. U. S. railroads paid 861 million dollars in taxes in 1954.

Vocational Building At High School Is Finished
The Gas tonia High School completes a two story nine room vocational building at Sev enth avenue and York street begun in 1934. It houses carpenters machinists and automotive mechanics with Joe Carter Walter Wray and A J Baraqua as instructors. The new shop offers a first auto shop under Carter and aims to broaden into electronics and sheet metal classes later. The program targets students not aiming for college and provides two year machine and carpentry tracks and a one year auto course. An industrial arts program in metal crafts will join this year.

Snake Causes Jeep To Wreck In Portsmouth
In Portsmouth Virginia a rattlesnake hopped into a military jeep carrying Capt. Joan F. West and Capt. George N. Sanders. The snake sparked a panic at 40 mph causing Sanders to jump into a ditch head first and West to follow. The jeep slid into a ditch and overturned but both officers emerged bruised and dizzy. The snake escaped into the grass.
