Union Picnic Draws 1500 To 2000 At Gaston Church
About 1,500 to 2,000 people attended Eureka Local No. 167 Farmers Union picnic at Union church six miles south of Gastonia. Speakers failed to arrive, but Rev. G A Sparrow delivered a Welcome and Gaston County Union president Eli P Lineberger and farm demonstrator A C Stroup spoke on corn raising and county progress. The day featured music from the Farmers Union Band, a generous lunch, and a lively afternoon of games and conversation.

Death of John Hovis Confederate veteran dies near Hickory Grove
John Hovis died at his home near Hickory Grove Baptist church last Thursday at 10 am aged about 66 after months of illness. He belonged to Hickory Grove Baptist church and was a Confederate veteran. Survived by two sons Amzi and James and two daughters Mrs Mosely and Miss Caroline Hovis. Rev McClure of Mc Adenville conducted funeral services Friday at 2 pm. burial followed in Hickory Grove Cemetery.

Japanese preacher to speak at Main Street Methodist church
Brother Kuboka of Oita Japan will preach next Sunday morning at 11 o clock at Main Street Methodist church and probably Sunday night. He was converted under Rev R A Wilson eight years ago and has studied at Trinity College and Vanderbilt University for two years preparing for ministry among his people.
