Hurricane Helene cut power to about two thirds of Gaston County residents Friday as crews work to restore lines. In Gastonia over 100 trees toppled, rainfall reached 4 to 8 inches, and Mountain Island Lake was expected to rise ten feet above limits prompting voluntary evacuations near Nivens Cove.
