McLean housing project near Belmont reaches 40 percent completion

County drought grows in North Carolina
Gaston County has moved from abnormally dry to moderate drought as September proves one of the hottest and driest on record. Only 0.29 inch of rain since Aug 31 contrasts with normal September rainfall near 3 inches. Lincoln and Cleveland counties also are in drought, while Mecklenburg remains abnormally dry. A high pressure ridge keeps rain and cooler air away, prolonging heat into late September.

Belmont council candidates to hold forum in Belmont
Belmont candidates for City Council will meet for a forum coordinated by the Montcross Area Chamber of Commerce at TechWorks of Gaston County. The event runs 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday October 15 at 52A Ervin Street Belmont. Incumbents Ron Foulk Doug Gadd and Martha Stowe face election on November 5 with chamber president Ted Hall moderating. Hall calls the election pivotal due to area growth and believes the forum will aid voters and candidates.
