Bill Carstarphen CEO of Pharr USA is the 2019 Spirit of the Carolinas Award recipient from the Gaston Regional Chamber of Commerce. Festival brings catfish races back to Gastonia
The three day Carolina Catfish Festival at Eastridge Mall featured popular catfish races. About 70 fish from area lakes were raced in heats with volunteers collecting donations for nonprofits. Local kids Cameron and Kayden won trophies after naming their fish and racing in multiple rounds. The festival continues Sunday with food, crafts, games, and demonstrations.
