Chicago to Cape Fear Piping Plover Spotted in NC
A Great Lakes piping plover nicknamed Blaze, part of a rare 100-pair population, winters around Masonboro Inlet in Cape Fear, North Carolina. Biologists from Audubon North Carolina praise the shift highlighting coastal wetlands' value to shorebirds and endangered species. Blaze, abandoned as an chick, was raised at the University of Michigan Biological Station before return to the wild.
