Man charged in Gastonia hit and run injuring student
Tyler Williams, 22, UNC Charlotte student, was struck at 5 am on Hudson Boulevard by a dark gray Kia Sorrento and seriously injured. Christopher Allen Wayne Stephenson, 26, of Gastonia, turned himself in and faces felony hit-and-run with injury charges as police recover a front bumper fragment. Williams’s girlfriend Lirease Holt witnessed the crash and described his condition and impact.

Zelda D. Kollock 51, a Gaston County adult protective services supervisor, was fatally shot in South Carolina where estranged partner John Washington 58 faces murder charges. Washington was wounded in a car crash on I-77 and taken to a hospital. Kollock had recently retired from South Carolina social services and started a new role in Gaston County.
