A defense contractor opened fire Monday inside a Washington Navy Yard building. He sprayed bullets in halls and from a balcony into an atrium below. Thirteen people died, including the gunman Aaron Alexis, 34.
Police report four people have been kidnapped and robbed in Gastonia since Saturday, with three incidents. In each case two armed masked men force victims into cars, take them to ATMs to withdraw cash, then leave them unharmed though a gun is involved.
Police said bandits struck again after abducting men from a church Monday morning. Details reference kidnappings on Page 3A.
Police report three related kidnappings over a weekend and Monday in Gastonia and Charlotte. At Wal-Mart followed home to St Charles Court suspects forced victims into cars and used ATMs. A second victim at Lowell Bethesda Road apartment complex. Claude Burdette and Tony Patterson abducted near Flint Groves Church, forced to ATMs in Charlotte, $900 withdrawn from Patterson's account.
Gastonia police say Lamarris Guinn, 22, assaulted a bail bonds agent at 215 E. Garrison Blvd and dragged an officer as he fled in a PT Cruiser. The bail bondsman, Kali McPherson of Charlotte, assisted by police, reported warrants for Guinn including driving while license revoked. He was captured around 3 p.m. Monday.
