Bed and breakfast opens in historic Gastonia house
Tracy Wright and Dickson Shreffler opened the York Chester Inn at 211 W Second Ave Gastonia in the Barkley Myers house. The four bedroom inn is the county's only licensed B and B and anchors downtown history. Built in 1922 and designed by Hugh White the Colonial Revival brick home stands amid local landmarks.

Kings Mountain to start college scholarship fund
Kings Mountain launches the Send-a-Kid to College program to aid Kings Mountain High School graduates. The city asks utility customers to donate via their bills to fund associates degrees at Cleveland Community College or other NC community colleges, supplementing FAFSA Pell Grants and work-study as a safety net. Mayor Scott Neisler says the effort aims to keep youth in the community by building a local workforce.
