Officials explore options as more homes on NC coast teeter
A joint report by NC DEQ Cape Hatteras National Seashore and environmental groups proposes tools to protect oceanfront structures threatened by erosion sea level rise and storms. The report titled Managing Threatened Oceanfront Structures outlines financial regulatory local authority and insurance options to prevent collapses and environmental hazards. Since 2020 over 750 of NCs 8 777 oceanfront structures were at risk with seven homes already lost along Lee Coast.
