Accused Throat Slasher Captured After Standby Manhunt
Police hunted Rodney James Helton Jr. after a woman was kidnapped, stabbed and allegedly throat slashed in Stanley. Helton, 21, was lured from woods by a Gaston County officer and captured near 8:30 p.m. The Creek Walk area was locked down from 1:30 p.m. as residents were told to stay inside. The incident began with a 911 call from Helton’s grandmother reporting a bound woman in the residence. The car was found in a Stanley subdivision and the victim was located bleeding shortly after.
