AT&T announced in August plans to bring its GigaPower fiber optic service with super high speed internet to Gaston County. Several rival providers have also launched or announced similar high speed offerings in the region.
AT&T expands its U-verse with GigaPower fiber network in Gaston County with speeds up to one gigabit per second, mainly in Gastonia. Officials acknowledge uneven availability and complex rollout plans while promising broad future expansion despite limited specifics.
Gaston County commits 975000 for Start-up Gaston to leverage ultra fast gigabit Internet. An incubator aims to attract tech oriented small firms and larger companies by offering a demonstration center for high speed connections. Dr Steve Hannon chairs the Gaston Gigabit committee. County chairman Tracy Philbeck notes Google Fiber expansion sparked westward outreach.
