Lee Spargo owns Deer Shack Processing in Gaston County with the slogan You Drop Em We Chop Em. He works 20 plus hours daily seasonally and built a family business from a long held dream. Spargo grew up locally, married Rhonda, and their enterprise has flourished.
The PAWS program seeks corporate sponsors as hunters donate deer for meals. Spargo notes a $50 processing fee per deer, down from $60, with 29 deer donated by Oct 24 and potential for more as gun season opens. A single deer yields about 65 meals. Contact Capps or Spargo for details.

Clyde Lee Cantrell Jr., 45, deputy chief at Gaston Emergency Medical Services, resigned from his $95,401 a year post five days after being charged with driving while impaired. Cantrell, who had 24 years with Gaston County, registered a 0.23 BAC after being found passed out behind the wheel at his Stanley home. Stanley Police investigated after a caller reported Cantrell driving and backing into his driveway. Cantrell had previously been suspended in May.
Gasoline prices in Gaston County and nearby areas are expected to climb as Thanksgiving approaches due to a petroleum shortage. AAA Carolinas spokeswoman Tiffany Wright notes abnormal demand for the season while GasBuddy shows a $2.29 per gallon rate at Omni Mart in Gastonia.
