Court appearance for murder suspect in Gastonia area

Brittany Self shouted at Gregory Town during his first court appearance on a first degree murder charge for the fatal shooting of Patrick Schneider outside his Downwood Drive home. Town, neighbor to the victim, said he will hire a lawyer and was not granted bond. Police noted prior dispute but did not explain escalation.

Murder charge filed after man beaten to death

Gaston County Police charged 29 year old Scottie Lee Blanton with second degree murder after a Friday night fight in a trailer park home. Victim Garrett Abernathy died from blunt force injuries after being taken to Carolinas Medical Center Lincoln and then transferred to Main in Charlotte. Police have not determined a motive for the dispute.

GEMS deputy chief placed on leave over DWI charge

Clyde Lee Cantrell Jr the deputy chief of Gaston Emergency Medical Services is on leave after police say he was intoxicated behind the wheel of his personal truck in Stanley. Investigators report Cantrell blew a 0.23 on a blood alcohol test and had been with GEMS since October.
