Gaston County rail line poised for tourist revival

After years of planning the Piedmont and Northern line may reopen as a tourist asset. Iowa Pacific, operator of the state owned rail, hosted a preview for leaders noting this is not a rail trail. The Train to Christmas Town will run Belmont to a pop up village with holiday characters. the line was refurbished with state and county funding in 2010.

Service runs in Hallman's life as Gastonia airman serves

Jonathan Hallman, a 32 year old Belmont native and 2001 South Point High School graduate, says serving in the NC National Guard comes from a belief in duty to mankind. As navigator on a C 130 he joined overseas deployments from June to September last year flying combat and combat support missions in the Middle East and Southwest Asia.
