Record early voting turnout in Gaston County midterms
Early voting ended Saturday with a record turnout in Gaston County surpassing all prior midterm elections. A final tally of 38,539 early voters plus about 900 absentee ballots exceeded 2014 figures by over 14,000, as 43 percent of Republicans 33 percent of Democrats and 24 percent of unaffiliated voters cast ballots early. The 17 inch ballot lists six constitutional amendments and alcohol referendums for unincorporated Gaston County along with several local races including U.S. House District 10 and state and county seats.
