Cross burned at Loray Baptist Church revival site
A white church preparing to host a black evangelist revival had its front yard cross set ablaze early Wednesday. Pastor Kent Crawford suggested the act may be race related as an African American family prepared to lead the revival. Local parishioners mourned the fire and prayed for the unknown perpetrator.

Countywide tobacco ban covers parks and public buildings
Gaston County commissioners approved what officials call the most comprehensive county tobacco policy in North Carolina. Starting July 2020, no tobacco products may be used in public parks government buildings or indoor venues open to the public. The ordinance, created by the Board of Public Health, also bans smokeless products including e cigarettes. Alyssa Mouton praised the measure for protecting health and modeling to youth that vaping is a tobacco product.
